Wan Ying is a Malaysian-born composer, arranger and producer from Malaysia.

She started taking piano lessons at the age of four in the Yamaha Music School in Kuala Lumpur. She has also received a high level of Grade 8 awarded by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) based in London. Despite her non-musical family background, Wan Ying discovered her passion for music and decided to pursue it as her life career. She enrolled into the Berklee Transfer Program (BTP) at the International College of Music (ICOM) in Malaysia in 2008. In 2010, she was accepted into Berklee College of Music and majored in Contemporary Writing & Production and Film Scoring. Since the start of her Berklee life, Wan Ying has been writing, arranging and producing songs in various genres, ranging from pop to visual media, for class projects. As her musical talents grew, she came to understand the true power of music to shape the world we live in and she knew she had chosen the right path for life.

Previously based in Los Angeles, home to the largest and most vibrant music industry in the world, Wan Ying was working with J2, a world renowned producer, as both lead composer and junior producer developing numerous successful albums such as “Primal Tribal” and “Tales of Old Times", which features edgy original music in an epic style which has not been heard before. Her work with J2 includes the 5th Wave International Trailer, Netflix's Marco Polo TV spot and “When the Bough Breaks” official trailer. 


Staying true to her ethnicity, Wan Ying is always trying to include Chinese culture into her music. This can be heard in her song "Dawn of Spring" which was awarded Finalist in the World Category in the UK Songwriting Contest 2016. Wan Ying also had the privilege to score "Insecure", a short flm directed by Cayman Grant which premier at the MTP Film Festival. She also scored the original soundtracks for a Malaysia-based mobile game "Hungry Tiger" by HelloNash. 


Wan Ying is also the co-founder of the songwriting duo, "Unfettered" along with lyricist Jack Slater. The first two singles, "The Moon" and "Good Day" have been released in 2017. Their recent release is Beyond Darkness. an epic orchestral song which is features Nadya Sudjaja. 

Wan Ying is able to work on all varieties of musical projects with her unique blend of orchestral music and hybrid sounds. Adaptable and determined, she is an ideal choice for anyone seeking a talented and thorough composer or producer. Her latest projects include film trailer music, cover songs and writing original music for artists. 


Wan Ying can be found backpacking, exploring different cuisine, baking, wandering in art galleries, watching shows and plays when she isn't burying her head in music.
